Playgrounds In Motion

Playgrounds In Motion is a travelling festival showcasing the latest developments in the world of animation & motion design. Working with Buck we wanted to design branding that encapsulates movement at its core and that reflects this dynamic and constantly moving media landscape.

Role: Brand design
Client: Playgrounds

The frist events took place in London & Rotterdam showcasing the latest developments in motion design and hosting some industry legends in the field. We scaled the logo design into a bigger branding story, spanning accross social media campaigns, event posters and venue / stage visuals.

The brand was brought to life on a larger scale at Outernet District in London and Maassilo in Rotterdam.

A Phone made the Google way

Google wanted to embrace everything that makes the brand unique in this Pixel 4 launch campaign. Colour, playfulness and simplicity were at the core of this spot with a prevelent nod to the Bauhaus design movement. What started as a simple design-exploration evolved into a comprehensive visual system.

Role: Art direction, design
Client: Google

For the campaign film we highlighted new features using grid based animation and simple shape language. We loved exploring ways to integrate the phone as another texture in our compositions but still keeping it center focus throughout.

The out of home campaign kept the same aesthetic but leant into a more tactile real world space showing off the device in all it’s three dimensional glory. We developed this 3D world further pushing the style into interesting new territories.

Meditation makes things better

A series of mini ads we created for Headspace encouraging people to get some peace of mind while scrolling their Snapchat feed. Meditation is shown to improve issues relating to stress, waking up, exercise and sex and we conveyed this using a bunch of fun and suggestive visual metaphors. The core idea being that meditation can help us put difficult feelings into perspective instead of blowing them out of proportion.

Role: Creative direction & design
Client: Brother

To support the downcast found footage element in each ad we shot a series of superseding scenarios to mirror that same feeling but experienced through the lens of using meditation. The idea that these feelings may remain but meditation makes them much less intense.

Alphabet

I was approached to add a colourful layer to these already beautiful typographic studies, originally found in a UK flea market some are dated at nearly 100 years old (?!). After the initial design development phase we landed on a more geometric approach, to contrast with the fine pencil.

Role: Art Direction, Design

Each design was inspired by the letterform beneath, reduced but still capturing the feeling of each letter. As there is transparency with each print the relationship between the 2 layers was also considered.
After much exploration on the physical application of each design (transparent paper & acetate were also considered) we chose screen print as the best method. Printed at Oficina Loba studio in Lisbon.
